AbleTech
We build things for the people who need them the most.
Who We Are
Hi, this is AbleTech. We are an independent, high-schooler-run initiative that aims to create software solutions for any group of people needing help in our community for free.
Today on Long Island, over one million people have a mental illness. Many of these individuals face challenges in their daily lives, such as difficulty with communication, navigation, memorization, etc. And we realized that software solutions could help to address these challenges and improve the quality of life for people with mental illness. Whether it is an improved communication or memory aid, we want to improve the lives of people with difficulties for the better of our community.
Our Experiences
The Able Tech initiative has quickly grown to include five high schools in New York, including Roslyn High School, Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School, Rye Country Day School, and Great Neck South/North High School. Our team comprises more than twenty high school students, specializing in software development and program outreach.
Some of our team members had prior experience creating technologies for practical use before our initiative was established. These projects included enhanced memory aids for individuals with dementia, robots that competed in the VEX Robotics World Championship, and an AI-driven program for diagnosing fetal health that made it to the International Science and Engineering Fair. In short, our team consists of skilled and competent individuals who work together to create significant transformations.
Our Goals
The primary goal of Able Tech is to develop innovative software solutions that address the challenges faced by individuals with mental illness. This includes creating applications and tools that improve communication, navigation, memory, and other aspects of daily life. The team aims to leverage technology to enhance the quality of life for people with mental illness and make a positive impact on the community.
We are dedicated to providing free software solutions and services to local organizations without expecting anything in return. This commitment ensures that our solutions are accessible to everyone in need, regardless of their financial situation.
We also aim to work closely with organizations, support groups, and healthcare professionals specializing in mental health to gain insights into the specific needs and challenges faced by individuals with mental illness. By collaborating with these stakeholders, Able Tech can develop tailored software solutions that address real-world problems effectively.
Able Tech strives to extend its impact within New York State. Although the initiative has initially focused on serving the local Long Island community, the team aims to scale its operations and partner with organizations and schools in other regions. By spreading awareness about their software solutions, Able Tech hopes to positively affect more individuals with mental illness in different parts of New York.
